About Us
An old horse barn sits atop a hill in western Iowa on 43 acres of rolling pasture. A building that once housed “famous” stud horses alongside a child’s beloved pony is now a gorgeous event venue that seats 560 guests. From the beautiful bridal dressing suite to the outdoor wedding space with amazing views, to the fully temperature-controlled interior, it is unmatched in size and quality.
Our Story
The property–that includes the barn–was purchased by our family in 1999. For the first year, while our house was being built, we spent countless hours in the horse barn, visiting our pregnant mare and having fun with our large family. We moved onto the farm in 2000 and enjoyed many years. After the unexpected death of husband and father in 2015, our whole world shifted.
In the Spring of 2016, we began toying with the idea of holding a family wedding reception in the barn. We quickly discovered that it was in need of serious repair. Unable to justify the repairs for one wedding, we began to think “outside the barn” to the possibility of building a family business around the hope that others would love it as much as our family.
Barn Renovations
Renovations began in June 2016, with the removal of the roof and repairs to the damaged support beams. This was when we discovered the beautiful cedar trusses. These are now blasted clean from years of dirt. Stalls were removed, concrete floors poured, leaving space along the sides for a coat room, office, sitting area, kitchen, bathrooms, and storage.
Each detail was given much thought and is evident in the stage, created from the original stall boards, cement tile and farmhouse sinks in the bathrooms, chandeliers that create a magical feel, concrete floors, and white shiplap walls.
Outside, we removed the old sheds and a nearly dead tree line to open up an area suitable for outdoor weddings. Tons of dirt was moved to create a very large parking area.
The renovations took just over a year. Our first wedding/reception took place on August 19, 2017.
